It's time for Pride!

It's that time of year again, when people all over the world come out to celebrate the rainbow spectrum of sexual and gender diversity.  It's time for Pridefest 2009!

This year there will be a plentiful lineup of activities here in the Tampa Bay area.  Among other things there's a sunset cruise, a comedy night, of course the obligatory black-tie ball.  There's even a mayoral debate between four of our local candidates. 

All the festivities lead up to the big event:  the Pride Promenade & street festival held in St Pete on Saturday June 27th. 

The Tri-Beta girls will have a booth at the street festival this year, proudly representing our local "T" community.  I will be there, and I hope to see some of your smiling faces too!

p.s.  Did you know that transvestites were a core part of the group that, in rebelling against police discrimination, sparked the Stonewall riots which in turn were the beginning of our modern gay rights movement?  We celebrate our pride in diversity in June every year to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which took place on June 28 1969.  Learn more about your transgender history here!
